SPECIAL GUEST

Today we had a special guest come to our class!  Hayden and Turner's Aunt Cheryl came to visit!  She even shared one of her favorite Dr. Suess books with us.  Thank you so much for reading to us today, Aunt Cheryl!  We really enjoyed it!

READING BUDDIES

Exciting things are happening in the wild world of first grade!  We met our 4th grade reading buddies today!  Needless to say, my first graders were so excited about this. Every Friday, they will get to read to their buddy and listen to their buddy read to them.  What a fun way to work on becoming strong readers!

If you ever get stuck on a word, 

Just ask our Wild Reading Helpers for an idea!

Geoffrey Giraffe says, "Check out the illustrations and look for picture clues."

Polly Parrot says, "Say the first sound of the new word."

Stretchy Snake says, "Stretch the word out slowly and then put the sounds back together."

Chunky Monkey says, "Look for chunks or word parts you already know." (-at, -er, -ing)

Hoppy Hippo says, "Skip the word you don't know, read to the end of the sentence, and then hop back and read it."

Tryin' Lion says, "Try the other vowel sound if the word doesn't sound right."

Zippy Zebra says, "After you have tried everything else, zip on over and ask Ms. Leist for help."
